DAY TRIPS FROM SALZBURG
Lake District, Salt Mines & Eagles Nest
1 / X
Tour Info
Breathtaking mountains, crystal-clear lakes and irresistible treats – the Salzkammergut is where nature meets tradition. No wonder Emperor Franz Josef spent over 60 summers in Bad Ischl, hunting in Lederhosen and loving every moment of it!
We set off on a nostalgic paddle steamer across Lake Wolfgang, ascend the Schafberg on a charming cogwheel train, and visit the famous wedding church from The Sound of Music in Mondsee. Whether hiking the scenic Falkenstein trail or exploring the picture-perfect village of Hallstatt – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – the region never ceases to amaze. And to top it all off, we indulge in local sweet treats like Zaunerkipferl and delicious apricot strudel.
At the Hallein salt mine, we follow the trail of "white gold," and across the border in Berchtesgaden, we dive into WW II history at the Obersalzberg – once Hitler’s second headquarters – and visit the ‘Eagle’s Nest’ and upon request the bunker system. The tour ends Bavarian-style: with white sausages, pretzels and a well-earned beer under the watchful eye of the mighty Watzmann mountain.
