Salzburg & Music
What would Salzburg be without Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart?!
Born here on January 27, 1756, Mozart travelled all over Europe, spent his last ten years in Vienna, and left behind 626 works (according to the Köchel catalogue). Two museums honor him, the Mozarteum is world-famous, the Mozart Week takes place every January, the Festival celebrates his operas – and the Mozartkugel is the most beloved sweet souvenir!
But do you also know Michael Haydn? He was Salzburg’s leading musician in the 18th century and a close friend of Mozart … or Hugo von Hoffmannsthal? He wrote the manifesto founding the Salzburg Festival, which began in 1920 with Max Reinhardt’s “Everyman” at Cathedral Square. Maestro Herbert von Karajan shaped the Festival for 30 years. Today it draws stars like Riccardo Muti, Cecilia Bartoli, Elina Garanca, Rolando Villazon and many more – and we’re right in the middle of it all!
Optionally, enjoy authentic Mozartkugeln paired with a glass of Festival wine – and you’ll be singing da capo!
Extras available:
- Exclusive concert on a historic instrument
- Visit to the Mozarteum & meeting the “Leporello Quartet”
- Behind-the-scenes tour of the Festival venues, State Theatre or Marionette Theatre
